Three Reasons Babies, Toddlers, and You Need a Routine – Moms on Call

If you’ve heard of Moms on Call, then you know we’re obsessed with routine. We have Moms on Call practices from 2 weeks of age through 4 years of age.

Following the steps will make you think by trying to remember what will happen on a daily basis. Honestly, trying to figure out when the next nap should be based on “the last time they wake up and what their waking window is” can be confusing and mathematical, and not all of us want to know the math that seems to change every day!

Because babies, children, and you need a routine.

  1. Prediction: It’s routine, everyone knows what to expect and when. Exercise is how our bodies tell time. Let’s face it, the only thing you can predict in life is the unexpected, but, with practice, you can get back on track with your next meal.
  2. Consistency: Consistency is important for babies because it helps them learn and understand the world around them. Once you establish a routine for eating, sleeping, and playtime, your child will develop a routine and routine. This will help them learn to anticipate and plan for different events throughout the day. For example, when you hear the water running in the shower, it indicates that it is time to sleep.
  3. Development: Developing healthy habits and routines can help maintain circadian rhythms. We often see that a child’s “24-hour clock” begins to mature by 3-4 months. This will allow for longer sleep and will allow you and yours to perform better in daily activities. Creating time and space for meals, playtime, exploration, snuggles, and naps is important for the whole family.

Changes should be flexible.

Of course, it’s important to remember that practices must be flexible (for a reason). Life with a little one can be unpredictable, and sometimes things don’t go according to plan. That’s great! Following the Moms on Call routine will help you bounce back when things get crazy.

Having a habit it can be a fun and exciting way to create order and predictability in your child’s life. By establishing a regular routine, you can help your child feel safe, teach him good habits, and create some special memories together, like our bedtime routine that includes sweet, loving time. So, embrace the power of routine and enjoy the journey of parenting with your little one!
