Something that some of you know, but most of you don’t, is that I immigrated to this country as a refugee. I was born in Croatia and as a child I survived the war that ravaged the area that used to be called Yugoslavia. This battle eventually led me to the United States, and led me to settle in the San Francisco Bay Area, so I have no regrets. Even though I have loved being an American for almost twenty years after arriving in this country, I still feel sad at times. To cure the nostalgia, I go to Croatia almost every year, and I usually listen to 90s Yugo pop music (especially when editing photos by myself). I really enjoy meeting people from my neck of the woods who share the same experiences as me. So, when I received an email from Vesna I was very excited to photograph the maternity and newborn sessions for her and her husband Matt.
About the Maternity section
Vesna’s husband Matt was born and raised in Walnut Creek, so for the maternity session we chose to stay close to where he grew up. We chose the beautiful Shell Ridge and Borges Ranch as our photo destination. The open spaces look so beautiful as the sun sets behind the rolling hills and the Ranch gave us lots of species to play with, and even a few goats to include in some fun photos.
About the Newborn Stage of Life
Vesna and Matt have a beautiful condo in San Francisco that they renovated and Vesna decorated herself. I was thrilled to see the large windows and amazing natural light throughout. Their son was cute and easy to draw. He joined them throughout the three-hour session.
Without a doubt, the Bump to Baby journey was fun to photograph! Have fun.
