HiPP Germany vs. HiPP UK – My Organic Formula

There are several places on the internet where parents talk about the difference between the HiPP formula sold in Germany and the HiPP formula sold in the United Kingdom. Here at MyOrganicFormula, we carry both.

So, what is the difference between HiPP DE (Germany) and HiPP UK (United Kingdom)? The answer is simple. HiPP’s main commercial product in the UK is the HiPP Combiotic range. This is the formula line that contains prebiotic galacto-oligosaccharides. The difference between HiPP Combiotik UK and HiPP Combiotik DE (apart from the spelling) is that the main German Combiotik line contains probiotics. Forms 2 and 3 also contain starch. HiPP UK contains no starch and no probiotics.

GOS and Probiotics

The great thing about all of HiPP’s Combiotik/c products is that they are designed to be gentle and nourishing to your baby’s tummy. Prebiotic galacto-oligosaccharides or GOS help support the intestinal flora. Some parents review that when their child takes one of the formulas containing HiPPs GOS, his bowels resemble those of a breastfed child.

Probiotics are also an important part of our DE Bio Combiotik formula. If your baby was born through a C-section; has been taking medication; was already in a formula with high sugar; or have a difficult pregnancy, they can benefit from probiotics. Probiotics are bacteria that normally live in your gut and keep you healthy. There are many factors that can affect the amount of good bacteria in your baby’s gut. If most of the bacteria are not doing well, your child may easily get upset stomach, gas or constipation. A healthy gut also plays an important role in a healthy immune system. HiPP Bio Combiotik is a good choice to help restore health.

What Kind of Starch is in DE Stage 2 and 3 Formulas?

The HiPP formula text only lists the ingredients in the question as “dry.” Most of the starches used in baby formula are made from corn, rice or potato starch, with corn being the most commonly used. In this case, we can confirm that the starch is organic and not GMO.

Why Do Manufacturers Add Starch to Baby Formulas?

As a child grows, it becomes difficult for them to absorb the increasing number of calories and nutrients in food. Until a baby reaches one year, its main source of food is breast milk or breast milk. Breast milk is 42% food, in the form of lactose. HiPP strains also use lactose. However, in some German systems for older children such as Stages 2 and 3, starch is the second source of food.

Solids help your baby feel full from their food, and can help a baby who is hungry. It is also sometimes used to add texture and smoothness to formula, for picky babies.

Is It Safe?

Dry ingredients are a safe and easy way to add energy and texture to a design. A baby’s body doesn’t break down as quickly as sugar. This makes it a better substitute for added carbohydrates than things like corn syrup, sugar syrup, table sugar or rice syrup. Although they have a low glycemic index, starches are a healthy choice. Small babies may have difficulty digesting some dry foods, therefore, many German formulas do not contain the ingredient in Pre and Stage 1 formulas, as is the case with HiPP Bio Combiotik.

Some people think that babies should have lactose, just like breast milk, in their formula. Therefore, they choose to follow HiPP’s Combiotic from the UK when their children grow from stage 1. The choice to stay close to breast milk is very good. If your child is allergic to corn ingredients; or you are concerned about starch in any way, choosing HiPP UK products is a good choice.

HiPP is committed to the health and well-being of all children. They want your child to be as healthy as possible. The slight difference between the two products is based on the needs of two different markets. However, in the end, all organic products are better than many other options out there, especially conventional milk. Rest assured, you can feel safe with HiPP products.
