One of the best shooting spots in the San Francisco Bay Area is Crissy Field. It’s a versatile space that’s perfect for any type of photography and is loved by many local photographers. I like it mainly because of the amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay but there are many other reasons why it is on my top 10 list of places to visit.
HISTORY
For those who don’t know, Crissy Field was once the battlefield of the Presidio. It was a dirt floor that was transformed into one of the most beautiful urban parks in the USA. It’s 4.3 miles of ocean frontage offers breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz. Crissy Field has lush green spaces, a beautiful beach, trails, trails, wetlands and more.
POINTS TO CONSIDER
From an artist’s perspective, there are a few things to consider before deciding which Crissy Field is right for you and your family.

The first thing to consider is the unpredictable weather. Crissy Field has its own mini-season in the heart of San Francisco. It can often be covered in fog and the wind can be very strong. Dressing appropriately is the key.

The second is time. Crissy Field is an open area, there is not much shade so the sessions must be well timed to achieve the best photos. The best time to play at Crissy Field is Golden Hour. Starting this session about an hour before sunset would be good.

The third thing to consider is crowds. Crissy Field is not only one of the most popular tourist attractions, but it is also a popular area for local entertainment. Avoiding people is easier as the sun approaches. It can be difficult for a newbie photographer so make sure you find the right person with experience.
THE STUDY OF MATERNITY
While Crissy Field is the Bay Area’s best place for all kinds of photography, my favorite places to photograph are the waiting areas. For this blog post, I wanted to include highlights from my recent Crissy Field session with the lovely Jody-Ann and her husband Troy. I thought this section was a good representation of all that this beautiful place has to offer. Cypress trees, beautiful sunsets, green gardens, stairs, spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the sandy beach are all on display and hopefully make it easy to find your next photo there.
