Hello everyone! I am writing this evening about the costs involved in single parenting and why it is expensive. I’ve been asked this question many times because when people hear that number they sound like they’re crazy!
But first….I have my own Etsy page set up with all the jewelry I’ve been making! I will be updating it regularly as I create new pieces. I had no idea how much fun it would be to make jewelry. It is very relaxing and I feel very creative doing it. I jumped for joy when I received my first order!! Here is the link, as well as some pictures of my favorite pieces.

Costs involved in adoption
The average cost of private placement in the United States is between $25,000-$50,000. Here is an explanation of what it includes. It varies a lot and can be less or more depending on the individual’s condition.
- Home tuition fees: $1500-3500 depending on state and institution.
- Sponsorship fees: $2,000-$3500
- Cost of our portfolio and advertising: $500ish
- Fees for advertising, listing our portfolio, match and placement fees, brokerage fees, etc.: $20,000-$30,000
- Surrogate’s co-payment: Can be $0 or more than $10,000+. I think most countries have limits. The cost may include shopping expenses, medical care if there is no insurance, transportation to the doctor, counseling, food..Etc Etc. (if the adoption does not go through and the mother changes her mind, this money will not be returned).
- Medical care for the newborn (usually covered by the adoptive parents’ insurance)
- Legal services and court fees paid to a lawyer: I don’t know how much this would cost but I know it could be a lot. It depends on the lawyer used by the law of the state.
- Travel costs: If the baby is born out of state, we will have to travel to the area and wait 5-10 business days before we can bring the baby home. This can mean the hassle of flying and renting a car and staying in a hotel for two weeks.
The cost of adoption is a huge obstacle for many couples who want to adopt, and I’m sure a lot of people think we’re crazy for trying to grow our family this way while Wes is still in medical school. Maybe we are crazy! It makes the journey very difficult but God has put it on our hearts to have a family now so we are trusting and doing everything to make it happen. It is not easy to ask for help but we realize that we cannot do it alone. It makes the saying “it takes a village” true. It has been amazing so far to see how many people think about us and want to help us.
How should we raise?
We hope to raise at least $20,000. This number scares me a lot and seems impossible! Among the funds we hope to raise are all the funds that we I thought we saved to buy a house that we should be able to pay back the cost we borrowed. I have seen God take care of my family many times and I know that everything will work out. Please continue to pray for us during this journey!!
