Finding Baby Sorrill: live updates!

Hello Friends! I keep hearing about people who find this blog when they search for adoption blogs and I feel so bad that I haven’t changed anything. So I’ll do one quickly! It’s been two years since Charlie joined our family and a lot has happened since then. He is the most handsome, active, friendly guy I have ever met and we just love him so much it hurts.

Here is a summary of the past two years.

When Charlie was two months old I had an abortion by a NaPro doctor who specialized in endometriosis. It was only 16 months after I had my first operation, which was to remove it when they burn the endometriosis and “kill it” but at that time I did not know that this method is very old and ineffective, but it is still the most popular method of treatment for endometriosis unfortunately. Charlie was home with us and I was experiencing more and more pain from endometriosis growing worse than ever. I decided that I didn’t want to be a very depressed mother so I decided to go to a specialist. I decided to work with a NaPro doctor because they have extensive training in endometriosis (and other causes of infertility) and are very skilled doctors. Excision surgery is the only treatment for endometriosis. This is where they cut deep into the muscle to remove every last bit of endo. Much better than just burning the surface. My surgery was a success and I felt IMMEDIATE pain relief. Speaking of which, on the pain scale I went from an 8 to a 1-2. I used to take about 40 ibuprofen each time, so far I take about 3, sometimes 6. WOW!

Three months later we started our journey to Wes’ country! Charlie was 4.5 months old, and we had just bought our first home in South Carolina! I was feeling broken and weird. Pregnancy had never crossed my mind because we didn’t think it was possible, and we were busy with the stress of moving and buying a house. But by God’s grace I was pregnant and we couldn’t believe it!

So here we are two years later. Charlie turned 2 in January, and our daughter Linnea turned 1 in February. It’s been a crazy two years of our lives! The best words to describe Charlie are FUN and friendly. He is VERY active. Don’t stop all day. He LOVES to be around people and loves to play with older children. He is very affectionate and will explode with joy and happiness when someone will run and play with him! He loves all things boy. Cars, garbage trucks, trains, cars, mud, waterfalls…all of it! Linnea is very different. He is very calm, content, and calm. The best word to describe him is sweet. He is just pure taste. He loves stuffed animals and hugs and kisses them. She likes to watch Charlie but she doesn’t rush to join him in running. She likes to look at her bum and play a lot with things. He has excellent motor skills. Charlie has excellent motor skills. Watching them grow and seeing their strengths and differences has been so exciting!

It’s wild to be on this side of it all now. Infertility and all the feelings that come with it seem long ago. Now I’m chasing a toddler around with a baby on my hip and half the time I feel like I can barely keep my head above water. Life is good right now. We are very much in touch and know that these are good years! Now, instead of crying because I want to be a mother so much, I just cry about what I can do to get my two-year-old son to stop hitting me and let me change his diaper. It’s so funny how quickly things can change!

We have a wonderful open adoption with Charlie’s birth family. We’ve been able to see his birth mother and older sister twice so far and it’s been amazing. Charlie is still too young to find out, but there is something very special about seeing them together. She is a beautiful woman who brought him to this world, and it is impossible to imagine this world without her in it! We are still grateful that he chose us to love and raise him, and we do not take it for granted.

For those of you who have found this blog while researching parenting, my prayer is that this gives you a lot of hope! Life can change in the blink of an eye. No matter how hard things get, never stop fighting for your family, it’s all worth it.
