Are you thinking about which location would be perfect for your next family or maternity photography session? If so, look no further. With over ten years of photography experience in the San Francisco Bay Area, I will use my expertise to guide you in choosing the perfect destination. There are so many beautiful places worth photographing in and around San Francisco that it can be difficult to choose. I narrowed it down to ten points and tried to explain each position, considering both advantages and disadvantages.
Back in 2018, I wrote my first blog post that highlighted my ten favorite places to visit in the San Francisco Bay Area. Well, it’s been two years and I’ve decided it’s time to release a list of my all-time favorite places to shoot mom and family sessions. This time, I’m narrowing down my scope and focusing on San Francisco and the East Bay. I live in the East Bay and most of my clients are local or live in the city of San Francisco, so it makes sense for me to feature the places I frequent.
There are many factors to consider when choosing a location. Some of them are: town or nature, scenic or hidden gems, touristy and crowded or hidden, bad terrain or poorly maintained garden, interesting or more. Every family is different and the final decision will be different. For example, if your family has three small children, you should stay away from the damaged walls of Sutro Baths. If you are concerned about the cold, I would avoid Lands End at certain times of the year because the cold winds can be brutal at times. If you want to show your one-year-old baby his first steps, you should consider a place that is flat and safe like the well-maintained San Francisco Botanical Garden. Most non-artists don’t consider all of these factors and the many things that can make or break a successful piece. While you are making a lot of money in the photography field, it would be a shame if you miss out on your chosen location. Here is a list of my favorite places and I hope you find them helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to help.
