After the prenatal or newborn session, the question that many families have is: What is the next baby photo we should take? The answer depends on preferences and many factors, but generally families tend to fall into two groups – those who want to document the seasons (such as cherry blossoms in spring, and leaves falling in autumn), or those who want to capture important events in their family’s lives. The main milestones I usually draw after pregnancy with newborns are the ‘sitter’ stage (around 6-7 months baby starts to sit up unaided) and one year (or baby’s first steps).
The sitter session can be held in my studio or outdoors in a scenic location, can include multiple changes for the child, and is a great opportunity to capture their personality and smile. This age is amazing because when they start to sit up they allow more photo opportunities (unlike when they can sleep on their backs or stomachs) and they are usually happy (especially in the morning!) so we get a lot of smiles and happy faces of children. I like the mix where we make pictures in my studio and go outside in other seasons. A studio wardrobe is available so that women can choose something beautiful to wear, and I also have many options for those who live in their wardrobe.
I love the one-year stage because it is important in the lives of the family and the child, and because babies are starting to take action, they like to be entertained by their parents, and their personalities are showing. I love to photograph them pulling themselves up and standing on their own, taking their first steps (with parents holding hands), and sometimes the kids – running wild! Parents are welcome to bring a cake of their choice for a cake smash we can do at the end of the session as well, to celebrate a big birthday.
One of my favorite things about doing multiple stages in the first year of life is how they change between each event, and how we can create beautiful pieces of art that can be passed down to your family. Photographing all the childhood events makes a beautiful album for the end of the year, where we can show your favorite photos together in a beautiful photo format to keep and give away. Keeping children’s books in the first year is difficult, so albums are a good way to keep your child’s first games in a beautiful format. Families often like to create beautiful wall art with pictures spanning the first year, showing the changes that the baby has made as they go from birth to one year. It’s an amazing time to write these incredible changes and grow as a family together.
I offer a popular children’s program that rewards each future session within one calendar year with a 50% discount on session savings, as well as 8×10 tear-off artwork for each subsequent session.
