On Sunday, November 1, 2026, daylight savings ends, and we turn our clocks back one hour. As if changing the clocks back and forth was not difficult for us adults, how can we ensure that our child’s entire schedule is not thrown away again? Follow our guide to get the most out of Daylight Savings.
Tip: Daylight saving isn’t as hard as you think! Let’s smash it!
First, make sure the Moms on Call Basics are in place.
- Use Moms on Call’s popular Same Day schedules (found in our books and tutorials) to help with Daylight Savings:
- Create and maintain amazing sleep habits!
- Promote proper toileting!
- Encourage your child’s age-appropriate growth by following their natural daily routine.
- Give yourself freedom (and flexibility)! Because let’s say, in parenting, freedom is a work of planning. Flexibility is designed to help everyone thrive when things don’t go as planned! Daylight Savings is no different!
- Create a great place to sleep that is practical and safe! The most important things are:
- Crib or bassinet
- White noise machine
- Light and heat
- The right way to swaddle (firm, tight, tight!) and blanket (under 3 months)
Then, follow these 5 easy steps to win through Day Savings!
- On Saturday night, put your child to bed at the usual time.
- Before you go to sleep, put your wristwatches back one hour. Digital devices will return at 2 am.
- In the morning, follow your child’s wake-up time according to the new clock and start your day as you do. Even if they have already started, give them time to get used to it before entering.
- Keep the rest of your day on your regular schedule, letting the clock guide your activities as your baby adjusts to the time change.
- Keep calm! Changes often depend 3 days! And before you know it, both you and baby will change! You can do it, and so can they!
Remember, the best way to set our kids up for Daycare success is to focus on things we can control, like sleep and routine! They will figure out the rest!
