As long as the child is happy, stable and calm, it is always good to shoot a little with these eyes.
Sometimes it takes a long time for these types of pictures to be done because newborn babies don’t have the ability to control their muscles, so their hands are shaking and they often move them all over the place! If he sleeps on his back without a blanket/tower, he is often startled by the Moro reflex or startle reflex. Sometimes it helps if mom or dad sit next to me and put their hands on the little ones and apply a little pressure, so they feel comfortable and safe.
Second, they always turn their heads when I’m about to shoot! Newborns tend to put their heads to the side like they were in the womb, so I put things on either side of their head to direct their faces towards me. So sometimes, waiting for the right shot can take a lot of patience (and don’t worry—I’ve got plenty!)
And thirdly, because of their immature nervous system and weak facial muscles, newborns draw funny faces and because the eye muscles are not yet strong enough to hold the eyes in one place or look at one thing for a long time, we often cross our eyes. So I wait patiently with my finger hovering over the shutter button to get a clear face.
Funny faces can be very cute! It shows the basics of their personalities and facial expressions to come so I’ll add them to the gallery if we get a few more of these beauties.
