The first post in our 8-week book on how to start or grow your business is just starting a business. That being said, there’s no way we can cover everything you need to know about starting a business in a short blog. In this blog we will discuss a few simple steps that you should know if you are starting your business from scratch.
Naming a business can be something that holds you back. We hear all the time, “I want to start a business but I don’t know what to call it so I haven’t done anything.” Well what do you think? It’s time to take action, we know you can do it! Sit down with a pen and paper and write down the different services you have to offer, placeholders, words that mean something to you or your business. Your business name should be difficult to pronounce, write, or remember. Although skill is required, don’t be too smart. After choosing a few “preferred” names, check the domain, social media, and legal availability.
When choosing a name for your business, you must decide whether to file as a Limited Liability Company (LLC), or an S-Corp. We encourage you to thoroughly research this aspect of your business. While we can’t provide you with information on how to start your own business, we have this wonderful link to learn more about LLC and S-Corp and how they differ.
If you are providing postpartum care of any kind, you must be insured as a postpartum provider. Both Haleigh and I use the CM&F team for personal protection and would recommend their services to others. The cost of insurance depends on the area you are in and what your provider group falls into. It is important that you do your research with any company you choose. Be careful and read the policy before submitting your money.
Thank you for following us on this list. Check back next week as we cover why sales and prospect sales are important!
