The best diapers for every age, stage, and smell

Even if you’re limited in baby gear, there’s one thing you’ll need a lot of: diapers. Fun fact: You can go through 2,500 to 3,000 diapers in the first year alone. But with so many different types, it can be difficult to know which diapers are best for your baby.

Some differences, although not obvious, make some diapers superior to others, especially if you have a special need. My little one has very sensitive skin, and we tried six different diapers before finding diapers that didn’t disappoint. You can try a few before you land on “the one,” but finding a good diaper that will hold up to big poop-splosions is worth trial and error.

How I chose the best diapers

To find the best diapers, I leaned on my own experience as a mother of two boys – both now happy for diapers, but they were definitely experts at trying to swallow energy back in the day. I also spoke with three parents who work at BabyCenter about their experiences with some of the diapers on this list.

I also included thousands of reviews from BabyCenter caregivers and featured information from the 2026 BabyCenter Best of Choice Awards, where more than 4,000 votes were cast to help choose the best diaper brand. This list includes diapers that stand out for their absorbency, ease of use, availability, price, and special features that make the diapering stage easier.

Note: All prices are based on packs of Size 1 Diapersunless otherwise stated.
