Aside from diapers, there is no baby essential that is more important to have than wipes. Whether you’re cleaning up the never-ending diaper rash, wiping sticky hands, or running the laundry table, baby wipes are the real MVP of the diaper bag. As a mother of three, I still keep things in the car – and I’ve learned that not all wipes are created equal, as evidenced by one wipe explosion that caused tears from me and a baby. I scoured thousands of BabyCenter community reviews and added insights from our parenting editors to find the wipes parents really love. How I chose the best baby wipes
To find the best baby wipes, I spoke with pediatrician and spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics — and mother of two, including a 10-month-old — Dr. Steph Lee.It will open a new window get his personal opinion and experts on the values important to consider in the child’s tears. I also drew on my own experience as a mother of three and a former parenting editor who has experienced what sounds like thousands of baby wipes myself, and I’ve tried most of the items on this list myself.
Further, I carefully surveyed the BabyCenter community to find out what brand is trending among new and experienced parents, based on their feedback. I also weighed every model considered against other factors, including:
- Mild ingredients: I narrowed down on brands known to be free of harmful chemicals and leading brands that have received awards or certifications from organizations such as the National Eczema Association of AmericaIt will open a new window.
- Lasting: A wipe that will tear in half and not go. Likewise, those that are more fragile require more wipes for cleaning.
- Growing up: Smaller wipes require more to do the same job than larger wipes. Parents also don’t wipe a diaper that’s too big until it wears out eventually.
- Dispenser design: At the end of hte day, if the design isn’t good, easy to use, and most importantly, keeps the wipes from drying out, you may never reach for the brand again.
- Price: Not all wipes are the same, so I also looked to see if the ones that cost more than others added extras to justify their extra cost.
